Trouble-Shooting

One of the nicest things about WindowsÖ based games is that there is virtually no hardware setup involved. Devices such as soundcards, joysticks, video cards, the mouse, and other cards are usually all set up and ready to be used by WindowsÖ programs.

Of course, trouble still can sprout-up in cases where these devices have never been configured correctly, even under WindowsÖ. Also, sometimes certain cards will still need a special driver specified in the old DOS 'config.sys' or 'autoexec.bat' files, even though you are using them from WindowsÖ!

Keep in mind that you should always have your unique system configuration printed out and kept near your computer, along with your specific system's user manuals. If your system's cards and their respective drivers are not installed properly, trouble will arise. It may look like a game is not working, when, in fact, your computer may not be configured correctly. Please take the time to learn and understand your system, and you'll have an easier time setting up any software products, including this game.

You Don't Hear Any Sound?
Do you have the latest soundcard drivers installed on your machine? Do you have the latest version of DirectX installed on your machine? Have you chosen the correct soundcard, and it's correct address, IRQ, and DMA numbers for your soundcard in the Windows Control Panel? Is your volume turned up and speakers turned on? Do you hear sound with any other Windows programs? If you soundcard's DirectX drivers are uncertified by Microsoft, you may need to download an update from your soundcard manufactorer's web page. Please refer to your soundcard's manual for information on how to obtain updated soundcard drivers.

WHERE CAN I GET SOUNDCARD DRIVERS?

Does sound stop playing on your system after a very short time? You need updated soundcard drivers (and updated DirectX drivers too).

You should refer to the documentation that came with your soundcard. You must know your soundcard's make and model number. Then, go to the manufacturer's web page and download the latest drivers. BE SURE TO INSTALL THE DRIVERS AFTER YOU DOWNLOAD THEM!

The Joystick Won't Work
Make sure you calibrate the joystick before playing the game. Joystick calibration can be done from within the WindowsÖ Control Panel by double-clicking on the 'Game Controllers' icon. Also make sure WindowsÖ recognizes your joystick from the WindowsÖ Control Panel (choose 'Start->Control Panel->Game Controllers').

The Mouse Won't Work
You must make sure that WindowsÖ is set up to recognize the mouse. Go to the Control Panel under WindowsÖ and select the 'Mouse' icon to configure your mouse. Please refer to your system's manuals and also to WindowsÖ manuals for information on the mouse.

Questions & Answers

Q. How do I adjust the music and sound volume?
A. Look for a program called 'Volume Control' in Programs-Accessories-Multimedia. (Hint: hit the 'Start' button to find the 'Programs' folder). HINT: Sometimes it's just easier to adjust the volume on your speakers directlyà this may seem low-tech, but it's fast.

Q. How do I run a program?
A. Double-click on the program's icon, or select the icon from the 'Start' menu.

Q. How do I find where I left a program on my hard drive? Where did the program go?
A. You must REMEMBER where you place programs on your hard drive. Try looking for Windows based programs by hitting the 'Start' button and selecting "Programs...". If you can not find a file that way, hit the icon which is typically called "My Computer" (unless, of course, you've renamed your computer, in which case, the name will be different!). Select the drive labeled C:. Look for the program in the folders located on your drive.

Remember, the people here at Webfoot will not be able to tell you where you have installed a game to on your hard drive! Our people are very smart, but they are not clairvoyant. Which is good, because then they'd know that we could really afford to give them raises, but have chosen not to.

Q. Can I make a backup copy of my game?
A. Sure, just as long as you don't give the game to anyone else.

Q. Can I give the game to anyone else?
A. No. This is against US Federal and International copyright laws. It also means that if you illegally copy this disk, the programmers will have to get real jobs, and that's not good!
